Did you know that for every ton of discarded item’s used again, 20 tons of CO2 is prevented from entering the atmosphere?
Cool right? But what is upcycling?
Well, put plainly, upcycling is taking used items and giving them a new use. The term was coined in 1994 and is already a key factor in environmental issues worldwide, and we want to make people aware of it.
We are StepUp, a group in Loreto Secondary School Clonmel and we want to promote sustainable upcycling and inform our local community on where and when they can get involved. We have recently entered a competition to promote upcycling through a digital medium.
Over the next few months we will be posting regular tips on upcycling, step-to-step ideas to do yourself and speaking with people who make second-hand items into creative and beautiful works of art. We hope to reach parents, friends and school colleagues. We also want to show you some of our great upcyclers in the Tipperary area.
We want to make a difference in our community, and we hope we have your support. By reading our posts alone, you are educating yourself on more sustainable ways to live your life and ensure we have a liveable planet in the not too distant future.
Our slogan is our mission statement, “For me, for you, It's the right thing to do.” We as a group, hope to bring about action and awareness of Upcycling and hopefully entice you to become involved in this project!
Thanks for reading, Stay tuned for further updates!
